FSU Alumni Cage Free

Dear FSU Alumni,

PAW is encouraging FSU to switch to cage free eggs at all campus dining operations.  My greatest memories of undergrad at FSU involve Seminole compassion and volunteerism.  As a Lady Spirithunter I had the opportunity to volunteer with many Tallahassee charities, including the Tallahassee-Leon Community Animal Services Center.  I learned that Seminoles care about the humane treatment of animals during my time at the shelter.  In fact, I got the best graduation present from TLCASC: a Lab/Doberman mix (and my best friend) named Jed.  Please help me encourage FSU to enter the new era of humane treatment of animals by signing the e-form, therefore endorsing my letter below.

Sincerely,

Dear Director of Dining,

As a liaison of the alumni community to the FSU campus, I’d like to express my support to you for FSU to switch to exclusively cage-free eggs. As you may know, eggs used at university dining operations like FSU sometimes come from hens confined in cages so small the birds can’t even spread their wings. Each hen is given less space than a single sheet of paper on which to live. Not only is this cruel and inhumane, cage confinement leads to serious food safety and environmental concerns.

For these reasons and many others, 2/3rds of colleges and universities are using cage-free eggs including the University of Florida.  Additionally, commercial egg farming advocate group, United Egg Producers, and the Humane Society of the United States reached a historic agreement to ban the use of battery cages with a federal bill. I hope FSU can join these ranks and become an exclusively cage-free (both shell and liquid egg) campus.

Sincerely,
Dena Cohen
